Everything We Know So Far About Jurassic World 2

The dinos are back.

Can you believe it has been 25 years since the first Jurassic Park was released? 25 years! It was one of those films that was so ahead of the times and while some will say it hasn’t aged well, we would tend to disagree.

Since the original Jurassic Park there have been 4 other films in the franchise with the 5th due for release in June 2018.

The highly anticipated 5th film in the franchise as always have sent rumours flying about what the plot will be, what dinosaurs will feature and who will be returning. Well because we are awesome, we have put together what we know so far, just for you.

1. The Storyline

There has long been talk of weaponised dinosaurs, trained to fight wars. Behind the scenes photos have shown many militairy vehicles on set. It was largely hinted at in Jurassic World but it is still yet to be seen if this will be the main storyline. Vincent D’Onofrio’s character Vic Hoskins heavily pushed to weaponise the raptors in Jurrasic World and Writer and Director Colin Trevorro has hinted Jurassic World 2 is likely to explore that route a little further:

“[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island. That’ll get old real fast.”

Speaking about new Director JA Bayona style, Trevorro added, “I don’t think that bigger, better dinosaurs or bigger, more epic-in-scope action sequences are what people are necessarily looking for from this franchise and what they love about it.”

“It will be more suspenseful and scary. It’s just the way it’s designed; it’s the way the story plays out. I knew I wanted Bayona to direct it long before anyone ever heard that was a possibility, so the whole thing was just built around his skill set.”

It is widely expected that there will be a return to Isla Nublar although it is doubtful they will stay they. There has been talk of returning characters Claire and Owen leading a rescue party for raptor Blue who is being hunted in a government led hunt to rid the island of the dinosaurs.

There is also that picture that has got everyone speculating. it features a 9 year old girl stood in front of a Triceratops skeleton. Her name is Lucy but It is not known her significance yet or who she will be played by but it is thought she will be very important to the storyline.

2. Returning and new characters

Claire and Owen, played by Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt will be back and it has also been confirmed that Jeff Goldblum will make a return as Ian Malcolm which excites us very much! Some new faces will include James Cromwell who you may recognise from the film Babe. Geraldine Chapman would be joining too, she was in The Orphanage, The Impossible and A Monster Calls. all directed by Bayona.

The raptors are almost a dead cert to be back too.

3. The dinosaurs!

And talking of the dinosaurs, along with the raptors there has been talk of new dinosaurs joining the film. The Carnotaurus and Baryonyx are said to be making an appearance and fans have also reported sighting the Dilophasaurus on set, remember that little guy from the first film?

Talking about the dinosaurs and alluding a little further to the storyline, Bayona said:

“Both Jack [Horner – palaeontology consultant] and me, we are concerned about man’s relationship with animals,”

“Dinosaurs are a parable of the treatment of today’s animals: abuse, experiments in medicine, pets, [you] have wild animals in zoos like prisons, military use has been made of them, animals and weapons.”

4. The Directors and budget

Jurassic World was made for $150 million but Jurassic World 2 will have a much bigger budget, a whopping $260 million!! So expect it to be big! it is no surprise though as Jurassic World made $1.6 billion worldwide.

Director Colin Trevorrow is still involved, kind of. As he is signed up to direct Star Wars Episode 9, JA Bayona will be stepping in to direct this one.

“We’re moving it into new territory,” Trevorrow said: “JA Bayona is an incredible director and I know he’ll push the boundaries of what a ‘Jurassic’ movie is. I think it’s important that we take risks. A franchise must evolve or perish.”

Trevorrow and his Jurassic World co-writer Derek Connolly will be writing the storyline for the second Jurassic World and Steven Spielberg will be a guiding hand behind the scenes as executive producer.

Trevorrow said: “I feel like the idea that this isn’t always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponise it and later on we found it could be used for energy.”

He went on to add, “It’s almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?”

Talking about the film, new director Bayona said, “It will be darker and scarier than the previous film,”

“Obviously when you have Chris Pratt it will also be very funny. But it will be darker. It is a second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always dark as in The Empire Strikes Back or The Wrath of Khan which are the examples you always get.”

5. Release Date

The film is set for release on June 22nd 2018 but will hit UK cinemas before it’s US release.
