Lottery players were left very confused after an image was posted on social media of a ball in the lottery machine appearing to have two different numbers on it.
The picture was shared on Facebook and showed a ball with both 38 and 33 on it as it was being drawn in last night’s Irish Lottery.
This led to many punters calling out the lottery for being fixed and a barrage of social media comments followed.
Rory Clarke commented: “I never pick 33 or 38 so it’s grand !!! Yes It’s the light. Shiny balls !!!”
John Collins also wrote: “Clearly the light shining on the ball obscuring part of the 8. Look at 45 beside it bottom of the 4 with the same shine.”
Others also pointed out that it was an effect of the lighting.
Martine Wheland-Lambert said: “It’s the light shining on a no. 38 ball making it look like 33. No biggy… The correct number has been recorded.. 38.”
A spokesperson for the Irish National Lottery said: “The National Lottery would like to assure its players of the integrity of Saturday night’s Lotto Plus 1 draw.
“A brief reflection of light during filming caused an illusion and some players to think there were two numbers on ball 38.
“This was not the case. The weight and size of all Lotto balls, and the numbers, are strictly checked in advance of each draw.
“This process, as well as the draw itself, is independently observed by our auditors KPMG.”
